Adaptation to climate change

As climate change forces changes to the natural environment in which we live, humans will be required to adapt to such changes in order to maintain societies and economic activity that exist today. In its simplest form, the re-location of population is a form of adaptation to rising sea levels and changing agricultural potentials of certain environments. Adaptation can also involve the application of technology to reduce the impacts of climate change on the environment. Re-enforcement of sea walls or levees in regions prone to flooding or modifying crops grown in locations impacted by a change to soil conditions to better suited varieties are examples of adaptation. Adaption is already occurring in those areas most sensitive to the impacts of climate change and is likely to be an increasingly important component of the solution as greenhouse gas levels rise.
