Societies can adapt to the effects of climate change through relocating social or economic activity away from their current locations to geographies that are less sensitive to such effects. For example, an impact of climate change is increased flooding (see this link). Moving economic activity away from low lying regions that are prone to flooding increases the ability of such activities to deal with this impact of climate change, and reduces the economic and social costs of climate change.
